So why world history?
I'd have to say that it's because I'm fascinated by diversity and shocked at how little it's valued. There's so much to learn from other cultures and so much richness and depth to be found. However, because our global environment is so West-centric, many people don't appreciate or even think about the fact that there are thousands of years of human history that does not revolve around modern-day Europe. There are many places now that don't revolve around the Western World and its ideals and they're looked down on for being like that. Take for example the appalling (or willful) ignorance of Americans towards Islam or the almost exclusive success of the West in artistic media (literature, music, studio art, etc).
I guess what I'm saying is that there's so much more to the world than I can ever comprehend, but I'd like to try and wrap my head around a little more of it than what has been presented to me incompetently and incompletely. I don't claim to know much, but I want to learn and be capable of comprehension and analysis. One of the ways I do this is through studying history.
